are you gonna eat that?

No man in the world has more courage than the man who can stop after eating one peanut. ~ Channing Pollock

9. Mateo’s Mexican Grill

Conveniently located near the start of the beach road, next to the only convenience store and ATM in the beach zone.  With open-air dining and a lively atmosphere, this place advertises “the best fish tacos on earth” (having gone to college in san diego i find this highly dubious) and has the only western-style espresso bar we know of in the beach zone, for all you coffee addicts.  On the jungle side of Tulum Beach Rd @ 5 km mark.

8.  Posada Margherita

Killer cocktails  and a charming, relaxed atmosphere just steps from the beach.  Come for drinks at sunset, stay for dinner at this popular Italian restaurant famous for its fresh pasta handmade-to-order, lobster, and “fish cooked in seawater.”  A great way to kick off your trip and get an intro to what makes Tulum so special.  On the beach side of Tulum Beach Rd @ 4.5 km mark.

7.  La Zebra

On Sunday nights they offer cochinita pibil, a traditional Yucutan dish of pork slow-roasted in citrus marinade, and an all-night salsa dance party on the beach.  On the beach side of Tulum Beach Rd @ 8.2 km mark.

6. El Bistro at Ziggy Beach

The numerous beach “mattresses”, hammocks and loungers guarantee you’ll have a comfy place to set up for the day as you order 2 for 1 margaritas during happy hour (noon – 6pm daily) in one of the most picturesque sections of beach in Tulum, complete with swaying palms, friendly staff and a festive atmosphere.  Also serves some of the best breakfast in town (free if you stay at the hotel, Cabanas Tulum). On the beach side of Tulum Beach Rd @ 7 km mark.
